PHILANTHROPY

Make-A-Wish

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is our national philanthropy and was established to grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions. All of the philanthropies sponsored by Chi Omega go to benefit Make-A-Wish, and it is our sisters' passion for this foundation that unites us in our philanthropic goals each year. Our sisters are deeply connected to the cause, as we've had sisters who are Wish Granters, family members of Wish Kids, and even have a sister who was granted a wish herself. This national organization has various branches throughout the United States, and the Gamma Beta chapter is connected to Make-A-Wish Los Angeles to contribute to wishes granted near our home base of UCLA.

On average, a wish is granted every 34 minutes and this foundation has benefitted nearly 300,000 children since its inception with many more to come. Chi Omega is proud to support this organization on a national scale, and us here at the Gamma Beta chapter are so thrilled to be working so closely with Make-A-Wish Los Angeles to further support our community.  Keep reading below to take a closer look at the events we put on each year in honor of Make-A-Wish!

PANCAKE DISHES TO GRANT WISHES

Pancake Dishes to Grant Wishes is an all-you-can-eat pancake buffet hosted at our beautiful chapter house here on campus! For just $6, anyone on campus can come to Chi Omega and join in on our pancake obsession! All of the pancakes are made by our amazing house chef with love (and a little bit if syrup). It is a great way to come hang out with friends and support an amazing cause! Again, 100% of the proceeds go, of course, to Make-A-Wish! Who doesn't love a little breakfast for dinner?

Here's a sneak peak into our event from 2019! Cheers to all our breakfast lovers out there!

GRANTING WISHES

If we as a chapter are fortunate enough to raise enough money each year, we are given the incredible opportunity to grant a wish for a child on behalf of Make-A-Wish Los Angeles. This is an amazing collaboration between the foundation and our chapter to organize a truly special wish reveal for an extremely deserving young child. Two years ago, we were able to grant sweet Carolina her wish to go to Disneyland at the church her family attends in front of all her supporters. Our sisters even dressed up as Elsa and Anna from Carolina's favorite movie, Frozen, to make her experience that much more special. Last year we granted adorable Joselin her wish to see meet the UCLA Gymnastic's Team!

This is what makes all of our philanthropic efforts throughout the year worth it. To see our dedication come to life is the greatest experience for our chapter. We can't wait for many more wish reveals to come!

Every year, Chi Omega hosts a full week of philanthropy events called Wish Week in order raise money for Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles. Our week kicks off with a highly anticipated game of Chi O Capture, where our Chi Omega sisters serve as captains for capture-the-flag teams that include participants across Greek life and beyond. Teams compete in a bracket-style competition until the remaining team is crowned the winner. Additionally, we have an entertaining day of “Pie-A-Chi,” in which sisters from Chi Omega volunteer to be pied by students in order to fundraise. In the past, we have had celebrity appearances who have come and support our cause. Wish Week takes places annually every fall quarter and 100% of the proceeds go to Make-A-Wish.

Chi Omega is also proud to support many of the other philanthropic activities UCLA's Greek Life has to offer.
